NuLegacy The People’s Land

About NuLegacy

NuLegacy Center (NLC) is a platform developed to manifest a vision of a self-determined ecosystem, where healing and liberation yield economic democracy, generational wealth (individual and community), increased safety and well-being, and unequivocally demonstrates besieged neighborhoods collectively transforming themselves from the inside out.

Spearheaded and led by Chino Hardin, Co-Executive Director of Center for NuLeadership on Human Justice and Healing and a transgender activist and member of the Blackfoot Indian Nation, NLC is an accessible rural platform to explore urban solutions around land-based healing praxis through which people can arrive at a turning point in their own journeys through authentic healing-based curriculum, practices and experiences that unpack oppression and reveal the totality of who they are. NLC is for system-impacted POC youth in NYC to experience healing through farming, food sustainability and leadership skill building. The People’s Land is a space in Enfield, New York for the engagement of this work.

We are excited to announce that we purchased 20 acres of land in Enfield, New York. We are calling it “The People’s Land.”

“I think there’s a lot of healing to be done for Black and Indigenous people around land in New York and what has happened. Reconnecting to the land helps us heal from the trauma and atrocities of genocide and slavery.” -Chino Hardin

Why NuLegacy?

While local and national wins have been pivotal in publicly establishing the efficacy of youth and community-led movements, we’ve been so busy being in opposition to things and having to establish the obvious (Black Lives Matter) that we’ve had far less time and resources to devote to what, precisely, is necessary for us to thrive and not simply survive. Increasingly, there are efforts to establish safe spaces to explore and expand the bandwidth and ethos of our personal and collective humanity. And I believe healing praxis and intentional connectedness to nature are vital to this burgeoning movement for health, equality and sustaining nourishment in our communities.

NLC also holds tremendous promise toward bridging the gap between NYC and Upstate NY by nurturing citizens who have a new appreciation and outlook on their shared environment and take responsibility--locally and regionally--for conserving and developing green space for the health and wellbeing of the planet and its people.
