Groundswell Incubator Farm
The Groundswell Incubator Farm started as a way to teach and provide new growers with affordable land and resources to develop their production techniques and business skills associated with farming in the U.S. The first group of farmers on the grounds were foreigners who used the land as a means of getting used to the United States while growing foods that were culturally significant to them but not found in local supermarkets. One of these crops is Gotu kola, a leafy plant traditionally used in Asian cuisines that has a long history in both traditional Chinese medicine and Ayurvedic medicine. Gotu kola is believed by alternative practitioners to have antimicrobial, antidiabetic, anti-inflammatory, antidepressant, and memory-enhancing properties. This crop is also believed to have many potential health benefits, ranging from the treatment of infections, such as shingles, to the prevention of Alzheimer's disease, blood clots, and even pregnancy.
About the land
The Incubator Farm is located on four acres of land with a slightly downslope topography, with 12 growing sites for farmers. There are three high tunnels, a washing station, and three high tunnels on the land for the farmer's use. The Farm is open and welcomes those from all levels of expertise in farming.

From Ithaca, take route 79 West for 2 miles, turn left on Rachel Carson Way, bare left just before the store Gourdlandia. Turn left at the stop sign, passing solar panels and a greenhouse, following the Groundswell signs. The Incubator Farm is to the left, just below the solar panels.
The farm is not currently open to the public for walk-ins or visits.

It all begins with an idea. Maybe you want to launch a business. Maybe you want to turn a hobby into something more.
